by Rachid Idali

According to Rising Trends data, these are the new tech & gadget trends of October 2026, ranked by year-over-year growth (search volumes as of August 2026):

  • Codex Micro: 6,600 monthly searches, 99x year over year
  • Xiaomi 18 Pro Max: 4,400 monthly searches, 99x year over year
  • Microduck: 27,100 monthly searches, 99x year over year
  • Beats 360: 18,100 monthly searches, 99x year over year
  • Folding Iphone: 550,000 monthly searches, 56x year over year

Folding iphone is the month's heavyweight at 550,000 searches, up about 56x in a year, with apple fold at 40,500 and iphone flip at 33,100 riding the same rumour cycle. Below it the movers are launches from a standing start: codex micro at 6,600 searches, microduck at 27,100 and pocket ai at 40,500 barely existed a year ago, so treat their growth rates as launch spikes rather than momentum.

Tech & Gadgets in 2026: The Devices People Are Actually Searching For

Forget the keynote buzzwords. When people search for tech in 2026, they type the name of a device they want to buy, fix or wait for. The biggest rising search in this category is "iphone 18 pro max" at 1,500,000 monthly searches as of August 2026, and the rest of the top ten reads like a shopping list: a new MacBook, 3D printers, e-scooters, a folding iPhone, a Pixel and a Galaxy Fold.

The table below groups the risers into six device families. Instead of market-size estimates, it shows the search volume of the biggest rising term in each family, because that is the number we can stand behind.

Theme Biggest Rising Search Growth Leaders
New Phones iphone 18 pro max, 1.5M +308% in 3 months Apple, Google
Foldables & Flip Phones folding iphone, 550K +124% in 3 months Samsung, Apple
3D Printing & Personal Robots 3d printer, 1M +82% in 1 year Bambu Lab
Laptops, Handheld PCs & Parts macbook neo, 1.22M Breakout Apple, NVIDIA, AYN
Wearables & Audio fitbit air, 246K Breakout Google, Garmin, Apple
Smart Home & Off-Grid Power portable power station, 246K +22% in 1 year Ring, Starlink, Govee

Search volumes are monthly searches as of August 2026. Breakout means the term had almost no searches a year ago.

We rebuilt this list on October 12, 2026 from our live trend database, the same feed that powers the table above. The headline is that new model names dominate: the iPhone 18 line, the Pixel 11, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and a MacBook called "macbook neo" all went from nothing to six or seven figures in a year. Underneath the launch noise sits a steadier layer of practical gear, from 3D printers to portable power stations, that keeps growing whether or not anyone holds an event. Every search-volume and growth figure below comes straight from that data.

1. The iPhone 18 and Pixel 11 Cycle

Phone launches are still the single biggest driver of tech search. "iphone 18 pro max" pulls 1,500,000 monthly searches as of August 2026, roughly 100x what it drew a year earlier and up +308% in the past three months alone. Those August numbers were recorded in the run-up to Apple's September event, which means they measure anticipation, not sales. The smaller model follows the same curve: "iphone 18 pro" sits at 450,000 searches, also around 100x its year-ago level, and "new iphone 18" has climbed to 135,000 searches.

Google's phones show an even sharper pre-launch ramp. "pixel 11" is at 301,000 searches, up +643% in three months, and "pixel 11 pro" is at 201,000, about 20x in the same window. On the Android side, "samsung galaxy s26 ultra" holds 368,000 searches, roughly 17x its year-ago level.

The other half of this story is what people stop searching for. "iphone 17" is still huge at 1,830,000 searches, but it is down -55% year over year. Search interest moves to the next model months before the old one leaves shelves.

Why Phone Searches Are Spiking

  • Leaks start the clock early: Colors, prices and case sizes circulate for months, so people search the name long before any event
  • Pro Max is the default upgrade: The largest model carries more search volume than the standard Pro by more than three to one
  • Carriers ride the wave: Plan and trade-in searches follow every launch, which is why carriers like T-Mobile and Mint Mobile sit near the top of the wider pool
  • Refurbished demand grows alongside: Back Market is up +22% as some buyers wait for last year's model to drop in price

What's Gaining Momentum

iPhone 18 Pro Max (1,500,000 searches, about 100x YoY): The biggest rising search in all of consumer tech, up +308% in three months.

iPhone 18 Pro (450,000 searches, about 100x YoY): The smaller Pro model, rising at the same pace as its bigger sibling.

Pixel 11 (301,000 searches, breakout): Google's next phone, up +643% in three months.

Pixel 11 Pro (201,000 searches, breakout): About 20x in three months, the fastest short-term climb among phone names.

New iPhone 18 (135,000 searches, breakout): The generic shopper phrasing, up +123% in three months.

Key Players

  • Apple: The iPhone 18 line, with "iphone 18" alone at 3,350,000 searches
  • Google: The Pixel 11 and Pixel 11 Pro, both still climbing fast
  • Samsung: The Galaxy S26 Ultra and the wider Galaxy range at 368,000 searches

2. Foldables, Flip Phones and the Dumb Phone Pushback

Two opposite ideas about phones are rising at the same time. One wants the phone to get bigger by folding. The other wants it to do less.

On the folding side, "folding iphone" is at 550,000 monthly searches as of August 2026, about 56x its year-ago level and still up +124% in three months. The same idea in different words, "iphone fold", matches it at 550,000 searches and +643% over the year, while "iphone 18 fold" adds 90,500 more. In August, before Apple's September event, nobody could buy a folding iPhone, and people were already searching for one at this scale. Samsung's answer is moving faster: "samsung galaxy z fold 8" sits at 368,000 searches, up about 25x in just three months.

On the other side, "flip phone" is at 246,000 searches (+22% YoY, +49% in six months), and "dumb phone" is at 60,500, up +49%. Some of the flip-phone demand is foldable clamshells, and some of it is people who want a phone that can't run social apps. Either way, the search shows a real appetite for a smaller, simpler device.

Why Foldables and Simpler Phones Are Rising Together

  • The folding iPhone is the big unknown: Search demand for an Apple foldable is larger than for most phones already on sale
  • Samsung owns the category for now: Each new Fold generation picks up search faster than the last
  • Screen-time fatigue: Dumb phones and flip phones give people a way to cut back without going offline
  • Right to repair: "repairable phone" is at 246,000 searches, up +124% in six months, as buyers look for devices they can open and fix

What's Gaining Momentum

Folding iPhone (550,000 searches, about 56x YoY): A phone nobody could buy in August, searched like one already on shelves.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 (368,000 searches, breakout): Up about 25x in three months, the sharpest short-term rise on this page.

Flip Phone (246,000 searches, +22% YoY): Clamshell designs, folding and basic, keep a large and rising search base.

Repairable Phone (246,000 searches, +22% YoY): Repairability has become a buying criterion people type into search, even after a -63% pullback in the past three months.

Dumb Phone (60,500 searches, +49% YoY): The minimalist phone keeps growing as a deliberate choice.

3. 3D Printers, E-Scooters and Personal Robots

The biggest non-launch searches in this category belong to machines that make things and machines that move people. "3d printer" and "3d printing" each pull 1,000,000 monthly searches as of August 2026, both up +82% year over year. They dipped -33% in the past three months, a normal summer lull for a hobby that peaks around holidays and back-to-school projects. The ecosystem around them is growing faster than the printers: "makerworld", the model-sharing site, is at 673,000 searches and +174%, and "bambu lab" is at 450,000, up +50%.

Personal transport is the other big one. "e scooter" sits at 823,000 searches, up +22% over the year and +124% in six months, with the generic "scooter" flat at 550,000. The growth is in the electric version specifically.

Robots are arriving through the home, not the factory. "lawn mower robot" is at 110,000 searches, up +395% in six months, "robot vacuum and mop" is at 60,500 (+49% YoY), and "humanoid robot" is at 74,000 (+49% YoY). At the hobbyist end, the "esp32" microcontroller is at 60,500 searches, up +83%, which tells you how many people are building their own gadgets.

Why Making and Moving Gear Is Growing

  • Printers got easy: Plug-and-print machines turned 3D printing from a tinkering project into an appliance
  • Free models: Sites like MakerWorld give owners a reason to keep printing after the first week
  • Cheaper electric transport: E-scooters cover short trips at a fraction of a car's running cost
  • Chores get automated: Robot mowers and vacuum-mop combos take over jobs people dislike most

What's Gaining Momentum

3D Printer (1,000,000 searches, +82% YoY): The largest rising product search in this category that is not tied to a launch.

3D Printing (1,000,000 searches, +82% YoY): The activity, searched as often as the machine itself.

E Scooter (823,000 searches, +22% YoY): Up +124% in six months as riding season peaked.

Lawn Mower Robot (110,000 searches, +22% YoY): Up +395% in six months, a seasonal surge on a growing base.

Humanoid Robot (74,000 searches, +49% YoY): General-purpose robots are now searched as a product category.

ESP32 (60,500 searches, +83% YoY): The chip behind countless DIY smart-home and sensor builds.

Key Players

  • Bambu Lab: The printer brand most associated with the plug-and-print shift
  • MakerWorld: The model library that grew faster than any printer brand

4. Laptops, Handheld PCs and the Parts Inside Them

Computing searches split into two groups: new machines with new names, and parts people buy to keep old machines going.

The new-name group is led by "macbook neo", at 1,220,000 monthly searches as of August 2026. It had almost no searches a year ago, which makes it a breakout, and it is still up +22% in three months. That puts a MacBook name at the same search level as the iPhone 17 Pro Max. "mac mini" is also up +123% at 301,000 searches. Small desktops in general are rising: "mini pc" is at 90,500, up +50%, and NVIDIA's developer box, "dgx spark", is at 90,500 too, up +648% over the year. We covered why NVIDIA's two Spark products confuse searchers in a separate piece.

Handheld gaming PCs are the other new-machine story. The Android handheld "ayn thor" is at 368,000 searches, up +643% year over year, and the generic "portable gaming computer" is at 60,500, up +173% in three months. Valve's "steam controller" jumped +400% over the year to 90,500 but fell -87% in three months after its reveal spike. Our gaming trends page tracks the consoles in more depth.

The parts group is quieter but steady. "ssd" is at 165,000 searches, "hard drives" at 90,500, and "usb c cables" at 74,000, all up +22%. "ddr5 ram" is up +233% at 74,000, and "oled monitor" is up +49% at 74,000. "gpu repair" is the oddity: 135,000 searches, about 25x its year-ago level, though down -70% in three months.

Why Computing Searches Are Rising

  • New machines: A new MacBook name and a wave of mini PCs give buyers more choice outside the usual laptop lineup
  • Local AI: Machines like the DGX Spark put serious AI hardware on a desk
  • Handhelds diversify: Android and Windows handhelds now cover price tiers the Steam Deck left open
  • Upgrade, don't replace: Storage, memory and repair searches show people stretching the life of hardware they own

What's Gaining Momentum

MacBook Neo (1,220,000 searches, breakout): A brand-new MacBook name searched at iPhone scale.

AYN Thor (368,000 searches, +643% YoY): An Android gaming handheld that grew more than sevenfold in a year.

Tablets (246,000 searches, +22% YoY): Up +49% in three months, a steady category picking up again.

GPU Repair (135,000 searches, about 25x YoY): A repair search that exploded over the year before cooling this summer.

DGX Spark (90,500 searches, +648% YoY): NVIDIA's desktop AI computer, still up +83% in three months.

DDR5 RAM (74,000 searches, +233% YoY): Memory upgrades are one of the clearest annual risers in PC parts.

Key Players

  • Apple: The MacBook Neo and the Mac mini, both rising
  • NVIDIA: The DGX Spark desktop AI system
  • AYN: The Thor handheld, the biggest new name in portable gaming
  • Micro Center: The PC parts retailer at 2,740,000 searches, up +22%

5. Wearables and Audio

Wearables this year are about tracking without a screen, and audio is split between new premium headphones and a return to wires.

"fitbit air" is at 246,000 monthly searches as of August 2026. It went from almost nothing to a breakout after Google launched the screenless band in May, and it has cooled -63% in three months as the launch spike settles. Garmin's equivalent, "garmin cirqa", is at 110,000 searches and still climbing, up +122% in three months. We wrote about why screenless wearables took off when both terms first broke out.

At the other end of the market, "garmin fenix 9" is at 165,000 searches, up about 14x in three months. Garmin unveiled the watch on August 25, so most of that August demand came before the product was even official. Our fenix 9 breakdown covers the curve in detail.

In audio, "airpods max 2" is up +234% at 90,500 searches, and "airpod pro 3" is up +174% at 673,000. The countertrend is wired: "wired headphones" is at 110,000 searches, up +82% in three months, and "portable cd player" is at 60,500, up +49% in the same window. Smart glasses sit in between, with "meta glasses" at 1,500,000 searches, up +82% over the year.

Why Wearables and Audio Are Moving

  • Less screen, more signal: Screenless bands track sleep and recovery without competing with the phone
  • Flagship watches still sell: Premium outdoor watches build demand months ahead of launch
  • Premium audio refresh: New AirPods generations reset the upgrade cycle
  • Analog nostalgia: Wired headphones and CD players appeal to people who want sound without batteries, pairing or apps

What's Gaining Momentum

Fitbit Air (246,000 searches, breakout): Google's screenless band, settling after its May launch spike.

Garmin Fenix 9 (165,000 searches, breakout): Up about 14x in three months as the launch approached.

Garmin Cirqa (110,000 searches, breakout): Garmin's screenless recovery wearable, up +122% in three months.

Wired Headphones (110,000 searches, +22% YoY): Up +82% in three months, the clearest analog revival on this page.

AirPods Max 2 (90,500 searches, +234% YoY): Apple's over-ear headphones, more than tripling over the year.

Portable CD Player (60,500 searches, +22% YoY): A small but growing retro-audio niche.

Key Players

  • Google: The Fitbit Air, with the Fitbit brand at 450,000 searches
  • Garmin: The fenix 9 and the Cirqa, with "garmin" at 550,000 searches
  • Apple: AirPods Pro 3 and AirPods Max 2
  • Meta: Smart glasses at 1,500,000 searches

6. Smart Home, Backup Power and Off-Grid Connectivity

The last group is about control: watching your home, powering it when the grid drops, and staying connected where there is no signal.

Home networks and lighting had a huge year. "mesh network" is at 165,000 monthly searches as of August 2026, about 11x its year-ago level, and "smart lighting" and "smart lights" are both at 135,000, about 14x. All three have cooled -70% in three months, so the growth happened earlier in the year. "security camera" is at 201,000 searches, up +49%, alongside "ring camera" at 450,000.

Backup power is the steady riser. "portable power station" is at 246,000 searches, up +22% over the year and +49% in six months. "solar device" broke out from almost nothing to 201,000 searches. Connectivity is going off-grid too: "starlink mini" is up +123% at 368,000 searches, and "satellite mobile" broke out to 60,500 in the past three months alone.

Privacy is the flip side. "faraday bag", a pouch that blocks a phone's signals, is at 74,000 searches, up +83%, and "bodycam" is at 90,500, also up +83%. Personal recording and signal blocking are rising at the same rate, which says a lot about how people feel about being watched.

Why Home and Off-Grid Gear Is Rising

  • Whole-home Wi-Fi: Mesh systems became the standard fix for dead zones
  • Grid worries: Outages and storms push portable power and solar into everyday shopping
  • Satellite goes mainstream: Starlink and satellite messaging on phones make off-grid connectivity a consumer product
  • Privacy pushback: Faraday bags rise as camera networks and tracking spread

What's Gaining Momentum

Portable Power Station (246,000 searches, +22% YoY): Backup batteries are now a mainstream home purchase.

Security Camera (201,000 searches, +49% YoY): Home monitoring keeps a large, growing base.

Solar Device (201,000 searches, breakout): Small solar gear searched as its own category.

Summary

Tech search in 2026 runs on two clocks. The fast clock is launches: "iphone 18 pro max" at 1,500,000 searches, "macbook neo" at 1,220,000 and "samsung galaxy z fold 8" at 368,000 all went from nothing to the top of the table in a year. The slow clock is useful gear, where 3D printers, e-scooters and portable power stations keep growing without a keynote.

  • Launch names are the biggest searches: The iPhone 18 Pro Max, Pixel 11 and Galaxy Z Fold 8 surged months before release, so watch names, not categories
  • Foldables and simple phones rise together: A folding iPhone nobody could buy in August drew 550,000 searches, while flip phones and dumb phones grow on the other side
  • Making and moving is the steadiest growth: 3D printers sit at 1,000,000 searches and e-scooters at 823,000, both up year over year
  • Screens are optional: Screenless bands like the Fitbit Air and wired headphones show people want gadgets that demand less attention
  • Home resilience is a category now: Portable power, mesh Wi-Fi, satellite connectivity and faraday bags all grew as people prepare for outages and privacy risks
